EDUCATION AND TRAINING FOR PRACTITIONERS

  • In the UK at present, anyone can train and administer non-surgical treatments, and anyone can train them, regardless of medical and educational background.

There are no set standards for the education being provided which means people doing a 1 day course can go onto train others straight away! Yes that is crazy!
The new regulations being proposed have mentioned a standard of qualifications and training framework to be provided to ensure a high quality of training for those in the industry.
Professor Sines shared the belief that any future education and training framework must include mandatory mental health screening. He stated:

"With education and training being set as a new standard, which of course is the spirit of the licence, within that, the curriculum would require that any person who demonstrates the proficiency to achieve that education and training standard should and will be trained in psychological and emotional screening, pre-consultation."
We are happy about this news at safer aesthetics training and working hard to introduce the level 7 in cosmetic procedures in 2023, there will be OFQUAL regulated we think, all training providers should have to meet an Ofqual-regulated standard. There is also a proposed licensing scheme for premises and for individuals carrying out procedures. They will be looking to put them into categories by risk:

  • Green (Low Risk): Practitioners meeting agreed standards can perform these without additional oversight. Includes micro needling, mesotherapy, IPL/LED therapies, and more.
  • Amber (Medium Risk): Non-healthcare professionals need licensing and oversight by qualified healthcare professionals (possibly a prescriber). Qualified healthcare professionals can perform without oversight. Procedures include botulinum toxin injections, dermal fillers, and more.
  • Red (High Risk): Reserved for specified regulated healthcare professionals, regulated by CQC. Not part of local authority licensing. Includes thread lifting, hair restoration surgery, and more.
